To assess an X720 advertised as a Special Edition, compare three things: the documented SE package, the equipment fitted today, and the tractor's original sales or build records. Record what is installed today separately from how the tractor was originally supplied. For seat parts, start with the actual seat and base.
What the dated X720 SE package included
John Deere's U.S. equipment pages dated December 18, 2012 list X720 Special Edition package code 4916M, supplied without a mower deck. The package included an adjustable high-back seat with armrests, a front brush guard, styled wheels, front fenders and heavy-duty all-purpose tires. This is a dated equipment reference for comparing a tractor with its paperwork. .
Compare the seat fitted to the tractor
Deere's North American OMM161728H9 manual covers X720 tractors in its PIN 050001– range and illustrates separate standard and Special Edition seat arrangements. Match the manual to the tractor's full PIN before using its diagrams. The following details come from its Operating section, pages 12–14. .

Use these features to describe the fitted assembly. If the base or controls differ from the drawing, record the difference before choosing parts. A cushion photograph alone leaves the mounting and adjustment mechanism unidentified.
A deluxe seat can be a later installation
The same 2012 X720 equipment pages list BM21490 as a deluxe-seat field conversion and require BM21332 attaching parts for installation on a non-Special Edition tractor. That historical conversion reference explains why a deluxe seat can appear on an X720 with a different original specification. It does not establish which replacement parts fit today. .
Make a seat-parts record before ordering
Send the following information with a seat-parts inquiry:
- Tractor identity: full PIN and the manual or parts-catalog edition being used.
- Fitted seat: photographs of the whole seat, base, slide rails, visible controls and any readable identification labels.
- Installation history: original order details, a conversion-kit invoice or previous repair records, where available.
- The problem: identify whether the issue concerns the cushion, armrest, adjustment control, suspension or mounting. Include the relevant photograph.
- Application confirmation: ask the supplier to check the current part number, any supersession and required attaching components against this record.
Keep the supplier's confirmation with the tractor's records. A listing headed “X720 seat” leaves the fitted assembly and required mounting components unresolved.
Resolve mismatched equipment and records
If the seat, exterior equipment and original paperwork disagree, record each separately. Ask a Deere dealer to check the original configuration information available for the full PIN; note any question that remains unresolved. Describe a later installation explicitly when documenting or selling the tractor.
For engine identification, mower-deck records and attachment checks, use the main John Deere X720 guide. Keep those records alongside the seat record when checking a particular machine.
