For a John Deere X720, identify the tractor, installed engine and mower deck before buying parts or a used machine. Keep attachment records separate. A model badge, an engine fitted later and a deck from another tractor can lead to different purchasing decisions.

Identify the X720 and its service requirements

Deere’s November 2019 maintenance-kit table lists LG244 for X720. Its row does not name an engine or serial boundary. Confirm the actual engine identification, market and current kit application; record a replacement engine separately before ordering.

Record the deck model and serial, then each attachment’s identity, mounts and controls. Ask what equipment is physically included. A list of accessories once offered for the X700 family cannot establish a complete installation on this X720.

Check the actual indicators and controls against the applicable manual. Do not assume a particular display, automatic deck connection or warning system from a generic model description. Have unfamiliar functions explained before a permitted demonstration.

Try the seat position and control reach while following the operator’s instructions. Inspect the adjustment, mounting and access. A photograph cannot establish that the individual operator can use this machine comfortably.

Check the intended route and work against the tractor and attachment manuals. A wide stance, tire description or positive owner comment does not prove that a particular incline or towing task is permitted. Do not bypass a safety function during inspection.

Check the documented X720 60D installation boundaries

The 13 April 2015 US equipment book identifies 9076M as a 60-inch 7-Iron shaft-driven mower deck, called 60D, for a model list that includes X720. It requires a model-year-2007 X700-series tractor from serial 020001. This is a dated installation reference, not proof that any advertised 60-inch deck fits.

Identify the actual engine and workload before comparing fuel costs. No fuel-use, mowing-time or slope test is supplied here. Unverified percentage savings and anonymous performance stories are not a basis for estimating this machine’s running cost.

Measure the complete machine with its deck, discharge equipment and attachments in the intended configuration. Compare gate openings, storage access and transport space. A nominal 60-inch cutting width is not the machine’s full outside width.

That 2015 60D entry also requires turf tires or BM22425 HDAP tires and excludes four-wheel steer. It refers readers to the Sales Manual for further three-point-hitch, cab and Special Edition conditions. Resolve the actual tractor, tire and attachment configuration before considering a conversion.

Measure the fitted X720 deck before changing parts

AM130907 is listed as a deck-leveling gauge in the dated equipment references. Deere’s current US product page explicitly says it replaces TY15272 and includes X720 in a general-fit list. The page still asks for actual equipment selection for the most accurate fit; confirm the fitted deck and current application.

Obtain the matched manual’s preparation, tire-pressure checks, measuring points and adjustment instructions before using a gauge. Follow prescribed shutdown, cooling, isolation and support. The tool does not supply a service procedure or permission to reach into moving equipment.

Record the circumstances of uneven cutting or vibration and request a qualified assessment where needed. A leveling reading alone cannot identify every cause. New blades or a gauge do not establish that mounts, spindles, wheels and other cutting equipment need no attention.

Inspect accessible guarding, mounts and visible deck damage with the machine prepared as instructed. Do not infer internal condition from a clean exterior. Have unresolved faults and required safety functions checked without defeating guards or devices.
