For a used John Deere X748, start with:
- the full tractor PIN;
- the engine plate;
- the equipment actually fitted.
Use those records to choose documentation and check parts. A model name in an advertisement is not enough to choose a deck belt, engine service kit or replacement seat assembly.
Match the diesel manual to your machine
Two Deere manual editions show why the engine record matters:
| Manual | Printed PIN coverage starts at | Engine specification in that edition |
|---|---|---|
| OMM161727H9 | 050001 | 3TNV76, three cylinders, 1116 cc |
| OMM164430F1 | 070001 | 3TNM72, three cylinders, 904 cc |
Both describe liquid-cooled diesels. These are edition-scoped records, not an independently established engine-change boundary. , ; , .
Copy the complete PIN rather than only its final digits, then record the engine plate separately. If a listing and a plate disagree, keep both photographs and resolve the discrepancy before choosing a manual or service kit. Leave an unreadable field marked unknown; a guessed identifier defeats the check.
Build a record for the tractor in front of you
Use this worksheet when you view a machine or prepare a parts inquiry. These are recommended records, not a substitute for the applicable operator's manual.
| Record | What to capture | What the record should settle |
|---|---|---|
| Tractor | Complete PIN and a legible plate photograph | Which tractor application the supplier checked |
| Engine | Model and serial information as printed on its plate | Which engine the service items must match |
| Mower deck | Identification label, fitted components and overall photographs | Which deck the belt, blades or spindle inquiry concerns |
| Seat | Controls, underside, rails, mounting and any readable labels | Whether the inquiry is for upholstery or a larger assembly |
| History | Available invoices, service records and modification notes | Which claims have paperwork and which remain unverified |
Keep the original photographs with your notes. A typed transcription is easier to send, while the photograph lets a supplier check a doubtful character. Ask the seller about missing information. Do not copy an answer from another X748 listing.
Identify the deck before choosing mowing parts
Treat the fitted deck as its own parts inquiry. Do not choose a belt or blade from a claimed cutting width alone. Send its label photograph, the tractor PIN and the part being replaced; ask the supplier to identify the applicable diagram and OEM number.
For a used machine sold with loose attachments, make a separate list of what is included and what is demonstrated as installed. Ask for the relevant attachment identification and installation documentation. Keep an unverified attachment outside the purchase plan until its application and required fittings are established. This guide does not certify a deck or attachment combination from a photograph.
X748 Special Edition: seat controls and provenance
OMM161727H9 distinguishes standard slide-rail/suspension adjustments from the Special Edition seat:
- left fore/aft lever;
- front weight knob and gauge;
- right backrest knob;
- left lumbar adjustment;
- adjustable armrests.
A matching layout does not establish factory SE provenance. , .
Compare the controls on the fitted seat, then photograph its underside and mounting. Ask two separate questions: what assembly is installed now, and what supports the seller's original Special Edition claim? An original order record may help with the second question; current seat photographs help answer the first. Do not use armrests, wheel appearance or an SE description as a replacement-part number.
OEM filter references to check
OMM164430F1 lists:
- primary air element M113621;
- secondary M123378;
- fuel filter M801101;
- engine oil filter M806418;
- transaxle filter AM131054.
Deere requires the machine or attachment identifier when ordering and notes that numbers can change or differ outside the USA. .
Give the supplier these reference numbers and your machine record, then ask for a current application check. They do not certify a complete kit, an aftermarket substitute or a listing with a similar number. Ask about engine filters and transaxle service separately, so the supplier can identify the item being matched.

This listing is for the John Deere M806418 engine oil filter. Confirm the current Deere application against your tractor PIN and fitted engine before ordering; this is not a complete service kit.

Prepare a parts inquiry before ordering
Name the job first: engine servicing, a damaged deck component or a seat repair. Then send a short inquiry with the corresponding records:
Tractor PIN: ___. Engine identification: ___. Deck or seat identification, if relevant: ___. Part needed and reason: ___. Please confirm the applicable OEM number, any serial restriction and any additional fittings required for this assembly.
For an Amazon USA item, compare the actual listing's manufacturer and part number with that confirmed application. Keep the seller's compatibility statement separate from the OEM application check. A service kit needs an item-by-item check; a title mentioning X748 does not settle every item inside it.
Save the application response alongside the order details. If the response cannot connect the item to your identifiers, pause that purchase and obtain the missing record. The record should show why the chosen part matches your machine. Product count alone does not provide that check.

Honestly, I think the X748 is a bit overhyped. It’s nice, but I expected a bit more for the price tag. The cutting efficiency is good, but not mind-blowing. Anyone else feel the same?
I kinda agree with you. It’s solid, but I think the marketing makes it seem like a miracle worker. It’s just a good mower for the price, nothing more!
Thanks for sharing, Jenny! It’s important to get both sides of the story.
I gotta say, I was a bit skeptical about the price, but this tractor has exceeded my expectations. The build quality feels solid! Just wish it had a few more attachments available. 🤔
Totally with you on the attachments! I mean, a little more variety would be awesome. But I guess they want to keep it simple?
Glad to hear you’re impressed, Markus! The build quality is one of the highlights for many users.
I recently bought the John Deere X748 and wow, it’s made my lawn care so much easier! 🌿 The cutting technology is simply fantastic. I used to dread mowing, but now it’s actually enjoyable. Anyone else loving the comfort features? It feels like I’m riding in a luxury car!
Totally agree, Sarah! The seat is super comfy, right? I could mow for hours! 😂
Glad to hear you’re enjoying it, Sarah! The comfort features are indeed a game changer.
Just got mine last week and I’m loving the whole user experience! The controls are super intuitive. Now I just need to figure out how to connect my phone to the Bluetooth system. Anyone know how? 🤔
Brian, I had the same issue! You have to hold the Bluetooth button for a few seconds. It worked for me!
Congrats on the new purchase, Brian! Connecting Bluetooth can be tricky; check your manual for step-by-step instructions.
The customer reviews got me interested in this tractor, and I’m glad I decided to take the plunge! The performance is great on my uneven yard. Just wish it handled mud a bit better, though. 😅
I feel you on that! It does struggle a bit in muddy conditions, but it’s not terrible. Just gotta go slow!
Happy to hear you’re enjoying it, Chloe! Uneven yards can be tricky, but the X748 is built for versatility.
Just did some maintenance on mine, and I have to say, it’s pretty easy to check the oil and replace the filters. 🛠️ But I’m a little worried about long-term durability. How’s everyone else finding that?
Maintenance is key with any equipment! Glad to hear yours is holding up well, Rick.
Same here, Emily! I’ve had mine for over a year, and it’s holding up great so far! Just regular maintenance and it’s golden.
I’ve been a John Deere fan for years, and I have to say, the X748 is one of their best models yet! Love the ease of maintenance; it’s so user-friendly. Just wish it was a smidge faster! Overall, solid machine!
Thanks for the loyalty, Oliver! Always great to hear from long-time fans. Speed can be relative, but the efficiency is what counts!
I hear ya, Oliver! Could use a turbo button or something! 😂
I’m really impressed with the engine performance. It cuts through grass like a hot knife through butter! But I did notice it can get a bit noisy when revved up. Anyone else experiencing that?
Thanks for the feedback, Tommy! Noise can vary depending on conditions. Always good to hear user experiences!
Yeah, Tommy, I noticed the noise too! But honestly, it’s not a deal breaker for me. The power is worth it! 💪
