Updated
Deere currently lists a 21.5-hp V-twin, K46 hydrostatic transmission and 42- or 48-inch Accel Deep decks. .
Start with the equipment on the tractor you are considering or maintaining. Use the model badge to find documents. A parts order also needs the identity of the component being replaced.
Why specifications can differ
Deere’s November 2017 S240 Sport listing specifies 18.5 hp and a 42-inch Edge deck. .
This is a dated equipment description, not a production-year decoder. Keep an older advertisement tied to its document date. Before accepting a seller’s specification, ask for the full product identification number (PIN) and an engine-label photograph. Record an unreadable identifier as unresolved; neither the photograph here nor a familiar hood proves the installed engine.
Identify the fitted deck
Use the deck’s identification and current parts listing to establish its family, width and application. A mower described only by cutting width leaves the deck family unconfirmed.
Examples from Deere’s May 2023 guide:
| Deck | Belt | Blade example |
|---|---|---|
| 42-inch Accel Deep | GX25232 | UC21583 (standard) |
| 48-inch Accel Deep | UC10514 | UC22009 (side-discharge) |
.
These are dated examples, not the only blade choices or a current fit guarantee. Have the supplier check the fitted deck and current replacement number before ordering. If the deck cannot be identified, pause that order rather than selecting a row by width alone. A replacement deck needs its own application check.
Check engine parts separately
Deere’s May 2023 guide lists LG265 engine kit, AM125424 oil filter and AM116304 fuel filter.
For an engine-parts inquiry, provide the fitted engine identification and full tractor PIN. Ask for the current part number and, for a kit, its contents and application. The dated references are useful leads; they do not establish the engine currently installed or a current supersession. A model-name match on a retailer’s page does not complete that check.
If a quote names only an engine kit, ask the supplier to identify any requested belt or blade separately. Do not treat that kit name as an answer to an unresolved deck-parts question.
Compare the tractor offered
Ask which deck, attachments and removed or replacement parts are included in the sale. Keep the description of included equipment separate from known faults and repairs. An invoice may document a repair without describing the condition of the other assemblies.
For comfort, assess the actual seat and controls on the offered machine. A seat photograph can help you decide whether to inspect it in person; it cannot settle comfort for you. Compare identified equipment and the condition you can establish, then request a parts or repair quote for anything unresolved.
