The C8 manual’s LA100 engine row says “Oil Filter No,” but a separate crankcase-capacity line groups the LA100 and LA110 under “with Oil Filter.” Do not use that shared capacity label to choose a filter. Check the engine fitted to the tractor and its service instructions.
Match the manual and parts to the machine
Record the PIN from the tractor and the model marking on its engine. Check the deck identification separately: a deck shown in a multi-model manual is not proof that every LA100 has the same one. A used tractor may also have had an engine or deck replaced. If its labels conflict with a seller’s description, resolve the difference before buying a belt, blade, filter or attachment.
The gearbox is another useful identity check. The LA100 covered by OMGX22464 C8 has a Dana 4360 with five forward gears. The same manual lists the LA110 separately as an automatic model. If an advertisement calls an LA100 hydrostatic, ask for its PIN and photographs of the controls and transaxle label instead of assuming the listing is correct.
Check a used LA100 before buying
- Confirm identity. Match the PIN and engine marking to the applicable manual. Ask whether the engine or deck has been changed.
- Inspect the mower while stopped. With the engine off, key removed and all moving parts stopped, look for deck corrosion, damaged guards, belt wear and loose or missing hardware. Record the deck identification for parts lookup.
- Review service records. Compare the work listed with the manual for this PIN and engine. Do not order an oil filter from a generic LA100 checklist: Deere’s C8 specification says the LA100 engine it covers has none.
- See the tractor operate. Have the owner demonstrate gear selection, braking, mower engagement and the safety checks prescribed by the matching manual in a clear area. If a safety check fails, arrange service before operating it.
For an attachment, check the tractor PIN and the installed deck against the attachment’s fitment and instructions. A model name or horsepower claim alone does not establish belt, mounting or towing compatibility.
